Meet The Doctor

Dr. Robert Tocchio

IMG_1731“When a patient leaves our office with a bright, beautiful new smile, I know that I will have forever made a positive contribution to their self-confidence and self-esteem. The greatest joy I receive in my daily professional life comes from being able to provide to them, what I experienced so many years ago, when I literally ‘begged’ my parents for braces while in grade ten! I knew then that this was what I was meant to do in life. Besides excellent function, jaw joint health, a healthy smile and optimized facial and dental aesthetics, this is truly the one hidden benefit that I can provide to my patients.”

Orthodontists are general dentists first. They obtain an additional 3 years of full-time specialty training after dental school, focussed on the growth and development of the face, jaws and teeth, learning about proper jaw function and jaw joint health, and how to provide the patient with the ability to chew, eat and speak comfortably. Only 6 out of every 100 graduating dentists are accepted to enter the orthodontic specialty program*.

After growing up in St. Catharines, Dr. Tocchio attended the University of Toronto for 7 years, where he obtained his Bachelors of Science and Doctor of Dental Science degrees. He then attended UCLA for a year of Hospital Dentistry before moving to the University of Manitoba for 3 years to complete his Masters of Dental Science Degree and Diploma in Orthodontics.

Dr. Tocchio has been a licensed specialist providing orthodontic services since 1990. In 1992, he joined the 7+ Clinic at Chedoke-McMaster Hospital as Clinical Orthodontic Consultant, where he worked with patients who have all types of genetic cranial-facial deformities..

In 2000, Dr. Tocchio became one of the early adopters and qualified in a new form of orthodontic treatment delivery system: Invisalign. As an Invisalign Preferred Provider, he has extensive experience with this relatively new treatment option, which is rapidly growing in popularity among those seeking orthodontic care.
Even though he was a general dentist first, as a licensed specialist with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, Dr. Tocchio’s practice is restricted by law to providing only orthodontic services. Orthodontics is not part of what he does…it’s all he does.

Dr. Tocchio is a proud sponsor of numerous sporting clubs and local charities in the greater Brantford area. In his spare time he enjoys cycling, hiking, golfing and photography.
